Day One...

Our first official “work” day is now coming to an end, and we are already having a blast! Our four fantastic work groups ventured out this morning in the rain and fog, to tackle the tasks for the day.

Group #1:
Paul Maletic
Rob Sherwin
Dylan Birdsong
Phil Gill
Sarah Meacham
Kevin Morris
Carli Huffman
Timmy Clark
Jacob Cariker

After a long and sleepless night at Hotel Mountain Top, the best and coolest group (and most handsome), also known as The Bumblebees, jumped in the van after failing to load the needed equipment and headed off towards a house some 6.5 miles away. After a long, strenuous and tiring journey, The Bumblebees arrived safely at Beverly’s home and hopped out. They talked to Beverly, also known as the Lemonade Lady, and learned they would be spending most of their day around Mother Earth. After being assigned some 7 odd jobs, The Bumblebees flew into action and began clearing out a forest and pulling out lilies which soon turned into a mud pit. Although no naked wrestling occurred, The Bumblebees had a great time and soon became excited with their new found curiosity with Earthworms. After Mister Sherwin made a bet with Phil, lunchtime rolled around and Phil earned $5 after downing an 8 inch, fat bellied worm, one of the rarest and most beautiful of the worm species. Then, not wanting to be outdone, Dylan ate a worm, although skinnier in nature and not near as beautiful, and was awarded with more work to do. The group then found out that Beverly had some awesome neighbors. The group went exploring and found many goats and horses. Our favorites were Dumbledore the goat and Lil’ Romeo. We fed them most of our lunch and part of our fingers. Then we got back to work on the lilies, and building a pipe under a bridge in the driveway. That also required loading and unloading the heaviest rocks ever lifted into a wheelbarrow with a flat tire. The group then huddled and decided everyone should work to clear out the forest. After that was half-done, Phil and I, Dee-lan Birdsong went to work in the chicken pen clearing out poop. We began raking out poop, probably around 100 lbs. of it, and then shoveling sand into a wheel barrow and driving it down the road to the chicken pen and pleasing the chickens with a new ground and refreshing fragrance. After cleaning off the work equipment, we hopped on the van with Beverly’s husband who took us on a tour around his neighborhood and showed us awesome sites, churches, cool houses, and an awe-inspiring view that Timmy wanted to hang-glide from. The group then arrived back at Hotel Mountain Top and Dylan and Phil spent $5 each on all the candy and drinks their money would buy. $5 and two stomach-aches later, Dylan and Phil returned to the cabin to shower and used up all the hot water. The end.
